The Scream Breaks the Silence

A bloodcurdling yell shattered the thick silence. It echoed across the deserted hall, triggering goosebumps to rise on my arms. The heart hammered within my chest as I tried to pinpoint the location of the frightening sound.

Was it a trick? Or was my imagination working overtime in the gloomy stillness? I waited frozen in fear, incapable to move. Then, a silhouette emerged from the gloom.

Strangled in Sleep, Awoken by Terror

Darkness clung to her like a shroud, thick and suffocating. Her breath/airflow/gasp hitched in her throat, a silent scream trapped within the confines of her own lungs/chest/body. Something was wrong/different/alarming, she could feel it, a presence/feeling/sensation of unseen menace pressing down on her. She tried to move, to speak/call out/scream, but her limbs felt like lead, frozen in place by an invisible hand/force/grip. Her mind raced, desperate for reason/understanding/clarity amidst the growing terror. Then, a sudden wrench/jerk/pull on something around her neck, cutting off her air/breath/oxygen. She was fighting/struggling/battling, but against what? Against whom? The world dissolved into a blurry chaos of pain and fear before she finally awoke, gasping/coughing/shuddering, the lingering taste of terror heavy on her tongue.

A Whisper of Suffocation, A Cry From The Void

It unfolds as a subtle squeeze on your chest. You attempt to gasp, but each inhale of breath is met with a wall. The world beside you fades into a foggy emptiness, and your vision loses focus.

You plead for help, but your sounds are muffled within the enclosing darkness.

Your beating ramps up in a frantic attempt to provide air to your system. But the constraint only deepens, sucking you deeper into the darkness.

You are isolated, suffocating in a lake of your own terror.

The only sound is the drone of your internal breath. The world around you ceases to exist, leaving you in the cold, stark embrace of death.

Caught in Dread, Relief Through a Scream
